STMicroelectronics launches revolutionary wireless transceiver chip

STMicroelectronics recently launched two new short-range wireless point-to-point transceiver chips, providing an interconnection without cables and plug interfaces for personal electronic products such as electronic accessories, digital cameras, wearable devices, mobile hard drives, and handheld game consoles. solution. At the same time, these chips can also solve the problem of data transmission in industrial applications such as mechanical rotating equipment.

STMicroelectronics launches revolutionary wireless transceiver chip

As cost-effective cable replacements, the ST60A3H0 and ST60A3H1 transceivers allow designers to design slim, non-porous enclosures for products that are more stylish, waterproof, and wirelessly connected. Both transceivers feature automatic device discovery and instant pairing to save pairing time, while low power consumption helps preserve battery life. The operating frequency is 60GHz V-band, providing direct connection to eUSB2, I2C, SPI, UART and GPIO signal interfaces. The transmission rate reaches 480Mbit/s, which complies with the USB 2.0 high-speed specification and achieves transmission speed and low latency comparable to cables.

The ST60A3H1 integrates an antenna, which simplifies the terminal system design and adopts a miniature package, while the ST60A3H0 requires the connection of an external antenna to flexibly cope with various applications. These transceiver chips have the advantages of safe galvanic isolation, dust and moisture resistance in industrial environments, and are ideal for mechanical rotating equipment and instruments such as radar and lidar, as well as mobile equipment such as robotic arms. Since there is no mechanical wear, the service life is not limited by the number of revolutions, the working reliability is higher than that of slip rings, and the cost is lower than that of fiber optic rotary joints.

The two transceivers are easy to use and require no driver software or protocol stack to be installed, improving the end-user experience while enabling fast and efficient contactless product testing and debugging, including firmware download over the air (FOTA) on the production line and after-sales. ST60A3H0 and ST60A3H1 have been mass-produced and included in STMicroelectronics’ ten-year product life plan to ensure that customers can receive long-term technical support and products. Samples are available now, with detailed technical data, evaluation kits and production pricing subject to a confidentiality agreement.
