Silicon Power of the United States intends to build a silicon carbide manufacturing plant in India, investing 1 billion rupees

Recently, Silicon Power of the United States announced plans to set up a new silicon carbide manufacturing plant in Odisha, India, with an investment of 1 billion rupees, equivalent to about 87 million yuan. The investment will be made by Silicon Power's subsidiary in India, RiR Power Electronics. It is understood that Silicon Power has submitted a letter of intent to the Odisha government delegation and plans to start operating the SiC plant within the next 18 to 24 months.

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in the United States, Silicon Power is a manufacturer focusing on high-power semiconductor devices. In India, Silicon Power has three other semiconductor subsidiaries. In 2006, Silicon Power acquired a controlling stake in Ruttonsha, further expanding its presence in India. In 2019, Silicon Power acquired Microsemi's RF and power device foundry, which covers silicon and silicon carbide devices, and established SiCamore Semi, a silicon carbide device subsidiary. In addition, in July 2020, Silicon Power also registered a wholly-owned subsidiary Visicon Power in India.

It is worth mentioning that in January 2021, Visicon Power has received approval from the Indian government to build a silicon carbide factory in Gujarat, India, to expand the business of silicon carbide wafers and power electronic devices. The factory will be constructed in three phases, first producing silicon carbide epitaxial wafers, then building packaging lines, and finally manufacturing silicon carbide devices. The factory is expected to produce about 50 million devices in the next five years.

This time, Silicon Power plans to set up a new silicon carbide manufacturing plant in Odisha, India, to further expand its market share and technical strength in the silicon carbide field. Silicon carbide has broad application prospects in the fields of power electronics, optoelectronics and electric vehicles due to its superior electronic properties and high temperature resistance. By investing and building a factory in India, Silicon Power will further meet the growing demand of the silicon carbide market and contribute to the development of the local silicon carbide industry in India.

As the world pays more and more attention to silicon carbide technology and the market scale continues to expand, Silicon Power's investment measures will further promote the progress and industrialization of silicon carbide manufacturing technology. At the same time, this move will also strengthen Silicon Power's competitive position in the Indian market and lay a solid foundation for its development in the Indian electronics industry.

All in all, the investment initiative of Silicon Power in the United States to establish a silicon carbide manufacturing plant in Odisha, India will promote the development and market application of silicon carbide technology. By investing in the construction of factories, Silicon Power will expand its influence in the silicon carbide field and provide important support for the development of the Indian electronics industry. It is expected that in the next few years, the silicon carbide industry will usher in a more vigorous development, bringing new opportunities and challenges to the progress of the global electronics industry.
