ROHM and Veepoo Technology Sign Long-Term Supply Agreement, Driving the Application of SiC Power Devices in the Electric Vehicle Industry

ROHM, a leading semiconductor and electronic component manufacturer established in 1958, has signed a long-term supply agreement with Veepoo Technology, a global leader in drive technology and electrification solutions, on June 19, 2023. This agreement aims to promote the application of SiC power devices in the electric vehicle industry and is expected to generate over 130 billion yen in transactions for both parties.

The success of this collaboration can be attributed to the "Electric Vehicle Power Electronics Technology Development Partnership" established between the two companies in 2020, as well as their close technical cooperation. Through this collaboration, they have jointly developed SiC power devices suitable for electric vehicles and inverters utilizing SiC chips.

As the first outcome of their partnership, Veepoo Technology plans to supply advanced inverters using ROHM SiC chips starting from 2024. Currently, two major electric vehicle manufacturers have adopted this inverter, achieving the initial target ahead of schedule.

SiC power devices play a crucial role in the development of electric vehicle inverters, enabling more efficient power electronic designs. Among them, SiC chips are particularly important for electric vehicles as they need to support high voltages and optimize energy utilization to extend driving range and reduce battery size.

Through the establishment of this long-term supply partnership, Veepoo Technology will ensure the strategic and critical supply capability of SiC chips for electric vehicle development.

In the future, both parties will continue to deepen their collaboration, enhancing the efficiency of electric vehicles and achieving faster charging speeds through SiC technology.

Andreas Wolf, CEO of Veepoo Technology, stated, "The supply agreement with ROHM will be a crucial cornerstone in securing our future SiC capacity. We have accumulated rich experience through our past development cooperation. I hope that we can not only maintain our collaboration but also further strengthen it."

Dr. Isao Inoue, CEO of ROHM, commented, "SiC power devices are essential technology for achieving higher efficiency in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market. ROHM possesses advanced development and manufacturing systems in the SiC market. By establishing a deeper partnership with our strategic collaborator, Veepoo Technology, we aim to further accelerate our growth.
