ON Semiconductor and Kempower enter strategic agreement on electric vehicle charging stations

ON Semiconductor has announced a strategic agreement with Kempower to supply EliteSiC MOSFETs and diodes for scalable electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This collaboration enables Kempower to adopt various power semiconductor technologies, including Amkor's EliteSiC products, to develop electric vehicle charging solution suites. These devices will be used for active AC-DC front ends as well as primary-side and secondary-side DC-DC converters.

ON Semiconductor provides EliteSiC MOSFETs and diodes for Kempower's Satellite DC fast-charging stations. Adopting Amkor's EliteSiC MOSFET technology, Kempower's electric vehicle charging solution will achieve improvements in power, performance, and reliability. EliteSiC power devices have ultra-low on-resistance and gate, output capacitance, and lower power loss at high operating frequencies, resulting in higher system energy efficiency and smaller end-system size. These advantages bring higher power density and overall reliability to Kempower's electric vehicle charging solution.

Kempower's Chief Engineer, Petri Korhonen, said:

"Amkor's EliteSiC power devices have improved the energy efficiency of our electric vehicle charging solutions and reduced the size and weight. In addition, Amkor's vertically integrated supply chain and extensive smart power solution portfolio allow us to consistently and stably deliver top-quality electric vehicle charging solutions to the market."

As part of the strategic agreement, Kempower will use the new EliteSiC D3 diodes and M3S MOSFETs to develop its electric vehicle charging solutions. These charging stations can achieve dynamic load balancing, ensuring full power distribution and providing drivers with a better charging experience. Kempower's charging solutions feature scalability and modularity and can expand systems according to the needs of cloud-based charging system operators.

Asif Jakwani, Senior Vice President, and General Manager of Advanced Power Division at ON Semiconductor, said:

"Our manufacturing capabilities and SiC resilient supply chain ensure we deliver a committed number of high-quality products to Kempower. Highly reliable power devices enable Kempower and its customers to achieve reliable and durable electric vehicle charging stations."
