Infineon Releases New Product - WLC1150 Wireless Charging Emitter IC

The WLC1150 transmitter has high energy efficiency, flexible thermal management design options, low electromagnetic interference (EMI), integrated adaptive foreign object detection (FOD), inverter control, and other functions and features, which can meet the key requirements of the above applications. WLC1150 uses various methods such as quality factor, resonant frequency, and power to adjust adaptive FOD.

This transmitter uses a high-power proprietary charging protocol and supports a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 24 V, thus enabling wireless charging of up to 50 W. The built-in fan motor step-down controller can cool the interface surface for thermal management during high-power transmission. This product also comes with an integrated gate driver for inverters controlled by frequency, duty cycle, and variable voltage.

 

The transmitter also integrates a USB Type-C powered (PD) controller that supports the latest USB-PD 3.1 fast charging standard and Programmable Power Supply (PPS) mode. WLC1150 complies with WPC Qi 1.3 standard Extended Power Profile (EPP), Basic Power Profile (BPP), and Proprietary Power Extension (PPDE) requirements, and supports system charging through fixed inputs of USB PD/PPS or DC power. Regardless of the input configuration used, this transmitter does not require a front-end DC-DC converter, which helps greatly improve system efficiency.

 

In addition, it also supports adjustable overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and over temperature protection (OTP). The WLC1150 transmitter IC can be paired with the upcoming WLC1250 receiver IC to achieve a proprietary end-to-end wireless power transmission solution.

 

WLC1150 is equipped with a programmable 32-bit Arm ® Cortex ®- The M0 processor is equipped with 128 KB flash memory, 16 KB random access memory, and various peripherals such as ADC, pulse width modulation (PMW), and timer. Its full stack firmware provides numerous configurable options, allowing customization of system parameters such as FOD, in band communication, sensing, protection, etc. for specific applications through an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI), without the need for code debugging, simplifying and improving the efficiency of the entire configuration process.
