In static switching applications, the key goals in power supply design are to reduce conduction losses, optimize thermal performance, and enable compact and lightweight system designs, all while achieving high quality at low cost. In order to meet the needs of next-generation solutions, Infineon Technologies AG is expanding its CoolMOS™ S7 series of high-voltage super-junction (SJ) MOSFETs. This series of devices is mainly suitable for switching mode power supply (SMPS), solar system, battery protection, solid state relay (SSR), motor starter and solid state circuit breaker, as well as programmable logic controller (PLC), lighting control, high voltage electronic fuse/ Applications such as electronic circuit breakers and (hybrid) electric vehicle on-board chargers.
In this important expansion of the product portfolio, Infineon introduces the innovative QDPAK Top Cooled (TSC) package, which offers rich features in a smaller package size. These features make this device a clear advantage in low-frequency switching applications and reduce cost. Adopting the new high-power QDPAK package, the on-resistance of the device is only 10 mΩ, which is the lowest level in the market among products of the same voltage level and among products in SMD packaging. The CoolMOS S7/S7A solution improves overall efficiency by minimizing the conduction loss of MOSFET products and provides an easy-to-use and cost-effective way to boost system performance.
CoolMOS S7 power switches also effectively manage heat dissipation through improved thermal resistance, housed in an innovative and efficient QDPAK package, which reduces or even eliminates the need for heat sinks, allowing the system to become more compact and lightweight. This series of MOSFET products are available in top heat dissipation and bottom heat dissipation packages, both of which can withstand high pulse currents and handle sudden surge currents. Additionally, this family of MOSFETs features body diode robustness to ensure reliable operation during AC line commutation.
Since the CoolMOS™ S7 series high-voltage super-junction (SJ) MOSFET requires fewer components, it can reduce the number of components, realize flexible system integration, reduce BOM (bill of materials) costs and total cost of ownership (TCO). At the same time, this series of MOSFET products can also shorten the response time, and perform more smoothly and efficiently when disconnecting the current.
