German semiconductor company Infineon recently announced that it will soon launch LPDDR flash memory chips for vehicles in 2024, model: Infineon SEMPER X1, in order to meet the next-generation automotive E/E architecture. At present, the product is undergoing sampling, and it is understood that the performance of the storage chip has significantly improved, reaching 8 times higher than NOR flash memory. Through the LPDDR interface, it can provide a throughput of 3.2GB/s, and the random read speed has been increased by 20 times, enabling efficient storage and processing of real-time applications.
With the growth of the automotive market, the automotive storage industry has also experienced structural growth. In order to improve the intelligence, connectivity, and complexity of systems, the demand for off chip storage is increasing. In addition, more and more application scenarios are based on high-performance processing units. The storage requirements for programs and parameters of driver class MCU, GPU, MPU, SoC, etc., and the storage requirements for structured data of FPGA are increasing.
It is reported that in order to meet the new requirements of automotive regional architecture, Infineon has borrowed the LPDDR interface solution of LPDRR4 DRAM, which has a history of 10 years, and applied it to flash memory.
Jim Handy, general manager of Objective Analysis, a semiconductor market research company, said: "With the development of semi autonomous vehicle, there are more and more regional controllers in cars. These regional controllers have higher requirements for real-time computing, which can improve the reliability and safety of vehicles. Infineon's LPDDR flash memory can well meet these requirements of the next generation of vehicles, achieving higher performance than xSPI NOR flash memory
