Analog Devices' model ADUM1201BRZ-RL7 (click to buy now) is a dual-channel digital isolator based on Analog Devices, Inc., iCoupler® technology. Combining high-speed CMOS and monolithic transformer technology, these isolation components provide superior performance characteristics than alternatives such as optocouplers. By avoiding the use of LEDs and photodiodes, IC couplers eliminate the design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers.

The ADUM1201BRZ-RL7 uses a simple digital interface and stable performance characteristics to eliminate the uncertain current transfer ratio, nonlinear transfer function, temperature and lifetime effects of typical optocouplers. These iCoupler products eliminate the need for external drives and other discrete components. Additionally, at similar signal data rates, IC coupler devices consume one-tenth to one-sixth the power of optocouplers. The ADUM1201BRZ-RL7 isolator provides two independent channels of isolation in various channel configurations and data rates. Both devices operate at supply voltages between 2.7 V and 5.5 V, providing compatibility with lower voltage systems and enabling voltage translation across the isolation barrier. Additionally, the ADUM1201BRZ-RL7 offers low pulse width distortion (< 3ns CR level) and tight channel-to-channel matching (< 3ns CR level).

Unlike other optocoupler alternatives, the ADUM1201BRZ-RL7 isolator features a patented refresh feature that ensures DC correctness in the absence of input logic transitions and power-up and power-down conditions. The ADUM1201BRZ-RL7 is an automotive-grade version qualified for 125°C operation.
